Accreditation, Quality, and General Information

Webster University USA is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association, The accreditation, which was awarded in 1925, includes undergraduate and graduate levels at all locations where the University offers programs.

International Recognitions
China: The Webster University MBA program, offered in partnership with the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, is officially approved by and recognized by the Ministry of Education in China.

Thailand: Webster University in Thailand is a private university, accredited by the Thailand Ministry of Education under Thai law.

Austria: "Since 2001, Webster University in Vienna, known as Webster Vienna Private University, has been accredited by The Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ Austria) as an Austrian Private University.”

The Netherlands: Webster Leiden Campus is a recognized institute of higher education under Dutch law.

Program Committees

There are four program committees: one for each department. The Program Committees, through their members, seek input from students and faculty about issues concerning course delivery and curriculum. Course evaluations as well as informal input are used. In compliance with WHW art. 9.18, each Program Committee advises the Department on policy matters concerning education, research, and examination. They annually review the academic policies (OER) and give solicited or unsolicited advice to the program management on all matters relating to the teaching and delivery of the relevant majors. The committees meets at least twice per year; a staff member (Dr. Sara Lusini) acts as non-voting secretary. The Program Committee consists of at least two faculty and two students (one undergraduate and one graduate, nominated through the Student Governance Association, SGA), and an effort is made to include representatives from the subject specializations as well as the generic parts of the majors. Students are invited to activelytake part in these program committees. The SGA or relevant Head of Department can be contacted for details.

Quality at Webster University 
Degree programs at Webster University comply with the quality criteria set out by our main accreditors in the US, the Higher Learning Commission: North Central Association. The Criteria for Accreditation are the standards of quality by which the Commission determines whether an institution merits accreditation or reaffirmation of accreditation. The criteria, including program criteria, can be found on the ncahlc website

All our American programs, including International Relations and Media Communication, and our graduate programs are governed by the quality mechanisms summarized below.

There is a formal and regular evaluation process in place for all educational programs and teaching staff. Courses and instructors are evaluated after every course block of 8 or 16 weeks; all procedural activities for this are included in the Academic Calendar. Course evaluations (surveys) by students are carried out anonymously by the Academic Office, transcribed and posted for analysis and discussion by the Heads of Department. Program reviews are carried out on an ongoing basis by the relevant Webster schools or colleges in Saint Louis. These assessment reviews focus on operations and consistency. Syllabi from all Webster campuses worldwide where identical programs are taught, are collected, and faculty are periodically asked to submit additional data for assessment.

Examination Board
The Examination Board, consisting of teaching faculty, is governed by Dutch law, WHW article 7.12. The Exam Board as an independent body determines the policies related to the examination procedures. The Board is responsible for determining, in an objective and professional manner, whether a student meets the conditions with respect to the knowledge, insight and skills required to obtain a degree. The Board appoints examiners and can give directions for the assessment of the examinations. The Exam Board approves the transfer credits (“vrijstellingen”) that individual students can apply to their major.Currently, the Exam Board consists of two faculty members per department, an external member (from Regent’s University, London UK), and a non-voting secretary.

The Leiden Exam Office assists and facilitates the Board. The Exam Office assists faculty by electronically collecting all written work weighted at 20% or more. Students submit this type of work to the Exam Office, not to instructors. The Exam Office staff checks whether the papers were submitted before the required deadline (announced in the course syllabus) and sends the students’ work to the appropriate instructor for grading. Students’ work may be graded down or rejected if submitted after the deadline (this policy is posted in all syllabi). Instructors return the graded scripts (with feedback) within one or two weeks to the Exam Office which in turn distributes them back to the students. All student work may be (spot-)checked for plagiarism using and is archived electronically.

Information for International Students

Visa and residence permit
Dutch immigration law restricts who can enter the Netherlands. Students wishing to study in the Netherlands have to meet certain requirements, which vary depending on nationality and the duration and purpose of the stay. Please click here for more information.

As part of the registration process, Webster Leiden Campus requests international students entering on a visa to agree in writing to our procedure to report the student to the IND (whether ornot with prior notice) in case his/her registration is terminated, or to report unsatisfactory student progress as referred to in Articles 5.5 and 5.6 below.

Code of Conduct for International Students
The Dutch universities and other institutions of higher education have drawn up a Code of Conduct for International Students in Higher Education regulating various aspects of their relations with international students. Webster Leiden Campus has been instrumental in drawing up this code, and highly recommends you to familiarize yourself with its contents. 
Webster Leiden Campus aims to comply with articles of the International Student Code, National Commission (Gedragscode international student, hoger onderwijs, Landelijke Commissie Gedragscode Hoger Onderwijs).

In May 2006 the Code of Conduct International Student in Dutch Higher Education came into effect. Since September 1, 2017 a new version is valid in replacement of earlier versions. After an evaluation took place, the umbrella organizations agreed to a new version. The Code of Conduct is a joint initiative of the Dutch government and higher educational institutions. The result is an instrument of self-regulation. The Code of Conduct intends to contribute as a quality tool to the ambitions of the Dutch government and the educational institutions regarding internationalization as a means to turn the Netherlands into an attractive destination for knowledge and development. The Code was an initiative of the umbrella organizations of higher education: the VSNU, Vereniging Hogescholen, the NRTO and SAIL. Since 1 March 2013 SAIL no longer exists. The Code of Conduct contains agreements which (the umbrella organizations of) the institutions of higher education have developed to regulate the relationship with international students. The regulations are – for example – about the provision of information to international students and the minimum (language) requirements for admission to an institution of higher education.

According to Dutch immigration law, inclusion of an institution in the Register of the Code of Conduct is a precondition for attracting international students from outside the EU. On this website you can find the institutions that have signed the Code of Conduct, see Register.

The Rules and Regulations, which also can be found on this website, are an integral part of the Code of Conduct. In this document the competences of the National Commission are specified and it also contains provisions for the complaints procedure.

In the second video the complaint procedure is explained step by step and who, when and why a complaint can be lodged by the National Commission. Educational institutions can place the videos on their websites to inform international students about the Code of Conduct.

Webster University Included in Forbes Magazine’s Ranking of America’s Best Colleges

St.Louis, July 24, 2013 – Webster University ranks in the top 10 percent among America’s colleges, according to a report released today by Forbes magazine. Now in its sixth year, the ranking is based on five categories that relate to educational quality and the experiences and achievements of students: student satisfaction, post-graduate success, student debt, four-year graduation rate and nationally competitive awards.
